Recently, I’ve been thinking about the final scene of The Reichenbach Fall, where we have John standing by Sherlock’s graveside, with Sherlock watching him from a distance. One interesting fan theory/fan wish that I keep seeing popping up on tumblr , largely prompted by the ‘wedding’ hint given by Mark Gatiss for series 3, is that of Molly Hooper turning out to be BBC Sherlock’s Mary Morstan - John Watson’s wife in the original ACD novels.

Most people seem to have assumed that during the rooftop confrontation in The Reichenbach Fall Sherlock’s discovery of a loophole in Moriarty’s plan was a genuine attempt to get out of the situation without having to stage his own death, and Moriarty’s suicide was a genuine unexpected shock to Sherlock, but does anyone else believe that Sherlock ( Read more... )

So, in the Sherlock Casebook, in a snap of a newspaper report from just before the events of The Scandal of Belgravia, John’s age is stated to be 37. In a comment on John’s blog, posted shortly after John’s first meeting with Sherlock, about 8 months prior to this, John mentions that Harry is 36. The two are very similar ages, if not the same age.
